Warm up- Motivation Monday Video

If we did not get the oppurtunity to finish presentations we will finish them today.  Students will also be given their Dog Essay.  Where they will write a 2 page paper explaining life in the day of a dog of a certain breed.  They will research things like diet and temperments and need to include these in their essay.  We will also go over slides if they have not been completed.

Students will continue to work on their essay which will be due by Thursday.  We will go over slides if we have not completed them yet.

If students are not done with their essay they will work on that.  If they have finished they will be given the cross it up project to complete by Friday.

Warm UP–  Incredible dog video

 

Students will need to bring a video of an incredible dog to watch for class on Friday.  With that video students will need to include the breed of the dog, description, and reasons why it is incredible.  They will introduce their dog and then we will watch the youtube video.

Objective:  Students will research a breed of dog they find interesting and create a report over that breed

 

Show the Breeds of Companion Animals: Dogs – Sporting Dogs and Non -Sporting Dogs segments. Remind students to use the Vocabulary Handout as references. Distribute the In-Class Research Activity and instruct students to turn it in during Wednesday

 

Warm Up-  Talk to your shoulder partner quietly about what the most interesting breed of dog is and why?

Objective:  Students will develop debate topics and ideas for their debate on Tuesday.

 

Students will continue working on their debates in their groups.

Objective:  Students will defend their cases for the euthanization of animals

 

Today students will be split up into their groups to finally debate the euthanization of animals.  Is it a good thing or a bad thing.  Students will be graded on a rubric and this grade will be for a test grade.  

 

Warm Up:  5 minutes with your group to prepare for debate

 

(4)  The student knows the care and management requirements for a variety of small animals. The student is expected to:

(A)  discuss the physical characteristics for each species studied;

(B)  list the breeds or types of each species studied as appropriate;

(C)  discuss the habitat, housing, and equipment needs for each species studied;

(E)  explain health maintenance in each species studied, including the prevention and control of diseases and parasites;

Objective:  Students will be able to identify different breeds and classes of dogs.

 

We will begin our breeds of dogs unit by distrubiting the notes and vocabulary on google classroom.  We will begin this unit by creating a vocabulary quizlet and take a test over the vocabulary on Friday.

Objective:  Students will define the vocabulary words with up to 70 percent accuracy.  

 

Today we will begin discussing the different groups of dog breeds and learn to identify the herding breeds.  Once we have talked about each breed the students will use their composition notebooks to draw a picture of each breed we have discussed.  

 

Distribute the Breeds of Companion Animals: Dogs Vocabulary Handout for students to use as reference materials. Show the Breeds of Companion Animals: Dogs – Herding Dogs segment. Distribute the Crossbreed Activity and instruct students to turn it in during Class 2. Distribute the Life of a Dog Project and instruct students to turn it in during Class 5.

Objective:  Students will demonstrate understanding of the responsibilities necessary to own a companion animal

 

Begin a google classroom discussion by asking the students to list the responsibilities of owning a companion animal. Distribute the Benefits & Responsibilities of Owning Companion Animals Student Notes and the Benefits & Responsibilities of Owning Companion Animals Vocabulary Handout to use as a reference during the presentation. Show slides 1-16 of Benefits & Responsibilities of Owning Companion Animals.

Objective:  Students will demonstrate understanding of the responsibilities necessary to own a companion animal

 

Review the material discussed in class one, then continue with slides 17-25.Remind the students to complete the student notes during the presentation. Introduce the Overpopulation of Pets Project. Allow students to begin their research for the debate.

 

Warm Up-  We will review the material by placing 3 questions on the board and ask students to put the answers in their composition notebooks

Objective:  Students will develop debate topics and ideas for their debate on Wednesday of next week.

 

Students will spend the day preparing for their debate following the completion of slides 25-35.  There debate will need to be well organized.  Students will be given a worksheet to help them organize their thoughts as well as a rubric that they will be graded on.  The debate will be on Tuesday.
